Walks and Trails

Whether you wander beside the river, cross the exposed purple heights of the heather moorland or explore the woodland nature trails, there is something for everyone.

Barden Moor and Barden Fell Access Areas may be closed if there is a risk of fire or for shooting (Aug-Dec).

Barden Moor and Barden Fell Access Areas will not be closed for shooting until August 2019.
There will be no more moor closures due to shoots in 2018.
Closure dates for shooting are usually posted at the beginning of August and at the beginning of each month thereafter.

Closures include the following walks:

  • Valley of Desolation
  • Simon’s Seat
  • Rocking Hall

Dogs are welcome on all the riverside paths. We ask visitors to keep their dogs on a lead while walking on the woodland trails to ensure the protection of the ground flora and fauna. It is also to prevent any possible accidents, some of the woodland paths are narrow and not all visitors like dogs.

Dogs are not allowed on the Barden Fell and Barden Moor open access areas. This exclusion includes the Valley of Desolation and Simon's Seat.

Roadworks on the Estate

The B6160 from the Devonshire Arms to just south of the Village Car Park will be closed for essential drainage works on the highway from 10/09/18 – 24/09/18 (dates may be subject to change). The road is then expected to re-open on two way traffic lights for remaining work to be completed.

The Estate will be open as usual throughout the roadworks with access via Halton East (single track in places and should be driven with caution), Embsay and Eastby or further north via Burnsall.

Keep an eye on our website and social media pages for current updates or visit the highways link for information https://roadworks.org/?tm=106416724
