Join us for an introduction to fly fishing for beginners on the River Wharfe at Bolton Abbey, with River Keeper, Mark Whitehead and local fishing guide, Oscar Boatfield.

Together they will introduce you to the joys and benefits of fly fishing, amid the stunning beauty of the renowned Bolton Abbey Fishery.

You will be introduced to: Fly fishing equipment, fishing knots, basic casting roll cast and overhead, Entomology and fly selection, techniques/methods, rivercraft and reading the river, wading and safety and fishing demonstrations.

The evening is perfect for beginners wishing to discover the joy of fly fishing and the benefits it can offer to health and well-being in these modern times.

Useful Information

  • – The introduction will take place on Thursday 13th July.
  • – Parking will be in the Priory Church car park.
  • – The introduction will start at the Priory Church 18:30 prompt.
  • – The cost is £10 for members and £25 for non-members.
  • – The event is suitable for ages 16+. Those aged 16-18 must be accompanied by a ticket holding adult.
  • – Strong footwear and appropriate clothing is recommended.
  • – Assistance dogs only.
