Business on the Bolton Abbey Estate
24/04/2020Successful first month means family BBQs at Bolton Abbey
28/07/2020We’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their continued support through what has been a challenging time for us all. We have been so pleased to re-open our gates and welcome visitors back and to have a buzz about the Estate once again. If you are thinking of visiting soon, you may be interested to hear what measures we have implemented to ensure our staff, our visitors and our community are kept safe.
If you’re planning a visit you will now need to pre-book your tickets online, this allows us to stagger arrival times and manage the number of visitors at any given time to ensure social distancing can be adhered to. On arrival your tickets will be scanned, without any contact, by our kiosk staff. Those without tickets will not be granted entry.
We have also implemented a one way system on our narrower footpaths from the Village Car Park to Barden Bridge including over the stepping stones. Directional signs are in place to help guide you round the new routes, however we would advise downloading the map from our website before setting off (just in case you take a wrong turn!) https://boltonabbey.com/your-visit/bolton-abbey-map/. Where possible gates will be propped open to avoid multiple people touching them, however gates that enclose livestock will need to be left closed.
You will also find extra toilet and hand washing facilities are in place in our car parks and outside our shops, each with designated, 2m spaced, queuing areas to ensure there is no overcrowding.

In the first week of re-opening we welcomed many familiar faces back and lots of new ones too! We appreciate lots of people will still be feeling a little nervous about visiting so we thought some feedback from our visitors might offer some welcome reassurance! Here are just a few things our visitors have said:
“Did not hesitate and pre-booked it for today’s visit. Very well organised. People were listening and following the rules of social distancing and the new rules of Bolton Abbey.
Lots of handwashing stations. Well done Bolton Abbey the systems put in place are great and seemed to work really well.” Sadia.
“Been to visit today. Well done to all the staff. Everything has been signposted well. Everything seemed very well organised and we felt safe as a family all day. Great work Bolton Abbey!” Clare.
“Been and visited today – massive well done to all the staff at Bolton Abbey. Excellent systems put in place, with extra toilets and one-way system. Everyone kept to social distancing and we’ve had a wonderful day. Thank you.” Emma Louise
You can read about our new measures here and view a map detailing our one-way trails and pram-friendly and wheelchair friendly trails here.
Our approach will continue to be a cautious, considered, flexible one as we navigate these unusual times but we would like to thank our visitors for supporting us and respecting our new ways of working.
To book visit this page. Once you have arrived you are welcome to stay for as long as you wish until the Estate closes and car parks are locked at 5:00pm.
